Ogun State Justice Ministry Addresses False Rape Claim and Reports Progress in Gang Rape Investigation

Ogun State officials confirm a rape allegation by Mirabel was fabricated while announcing the arrest of the primary suspect in a separate gang rape case involving a minor.

The Ogun State Ministry of Justice has issued an update regarding two notable gender-based violence cases. Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade, SAN, announced that investigations confirmed the rape allegation made by Nsikak Abigael Emem, known as Mirabel, was intentionally fabricated. Consequently, no criminal charges were pursued. Instead, the Ministry opted for psycho-social rehabilitation, placing Mirabel under the supervision of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, where she is reportedly making academic progress.

Regarding the separate incident of a 15-year-old girl gang-raped in the Ibogun area of Ifo Local Government, authorities have achieved a breakthrough. Following the initial arrest of Segun Samuel, collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Justice and the State Police Command led to the capture of the primary suspect, Qudus Abiola Yekini. While two additional suspects remain in hiding, the government remains committed to their apprehension.

The Ministry expressed gratitude to the police leadership for their dedication to this case. Officials reiterated that the state maintains a firm stance against gender-based violence, as well as the fabrication of criminal accusations, warning that legal consequences will be applied to those found guilty of such offenses.
