Middle Belt Forum Identifies Region as Primary Target of Terrorist Attacks

The Middle Belt Forum reports that its region remains the hardest hit by ongoing terrorism and banditry, calling for closer cooperation with Hausa communities to strengthen local security.

The Middle Belt Forum (MBF) reports that its constituent regions continue to bear the brunt of violence from Boko Haram, ISWAP, and various bandit syndicates. In a statement released by spokesperson Luka Binniyat, the organization highlighted the massive human and economic toll taken on areas including Plateau, Benue, Niger, and the Federal Capital Territory. The forum noted that these extremist activities have caused severe instability across numerous states.

The MBF expressed support for the recent call by the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Muhammad Samaila Mera, who urged his citizens to organize for better self-protection against kidnappers and insurgents. The forum emphasized that if a prominent traditional ruler from the Hausa heartland recognizes the need for collective vigilance, then Middle Belt communities should prioritize discussions on local security and survival within the bounds of the law.

The organization views the Emir’s stance as a necessary call to action for traditional leaders across the Middle Belt, regardless of their ethnic or religious affiliations. Furthermore, the MBF advocates for increased solidarity between the diverse ethnic groups of the Middle Belt and the Hausa people. They suggest that fostering a strong partnership between these populations is essential for countering the influence of minority interests that thrive on division. The forum has pledged to lead these efforts, aiming to unite these regions to ensure a future defined by peace, democracy, and collective security.
