Rivers State Police Commissioner, Olugbenga Adepoju, has suspended the Divisional Police Officer of the Oyigbo division following reports of extortion and misconduct. This action was prompted by a human rights campaigner who alleged that the official unlawfully detained a citizen and demanded five hundred thousand naira.
Evidence of this transaction reportedly appeared on social media, alongside additional claims that the officer fabricated charges against a woman. Blessing Agabe, the command spokesperson, confirmed the removal of the DPO. She stated that the suspension is designed to facilitate an objective and thorough investigation into these serious allegations.
Commissioner Adepoju reaffirmed the department’s dedication to professional conduct and integrity. He promised that the inquiry will be handled impartially. The Command also encouraged the public to continue reporting police misconduct through the proper official channels.
