Former DSS Director Blames Political Leaders for Nigeria’s Unrest

Retired DSS Director Dennis Amachree asserts that Nigerian politicians are driving national instability by failing to serve the public interest and engaging in widespread corruption.

Dennis Amachree, a retired Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), argues that Nigerian political leaders are fueling national instability. He attributes this to their inability to deliver the benefits of democracy to the general population.

During a book presentation commemorating the 40th anniversary of the DSS, Amachree described widespread corruption and a deficit of patriotism among politicians as major threats to national security. He suggested these internal failures pose a greater danger than external enemies.

In his publication, ‘DSS@40: My Journey Behind The Shield’, the former official details his experiences as an intelligence operative. He emphasizes that rather than guiding the country toward stability, political figures have instead contributed to socioeconomic collapse through their choices and negligence.

Amachree concluded that the current security crisis is not simply a product of crime or insurgency. Instead, he views the nation’s fragile state as a clear reflection of systemic political failure.
