NACA Reports Enhanced Readiness for Public Health Emergencies in Nigeria

NACA states that investments from the Global Fund have significantly improved Nigeria’s health infrastructure, leaving the country better prepared to face future disease outbreaks.

The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) reports that Nigeria is now significantly better prepared to manage future health crises. This progress follows targeted investments from the Global Fund’s COVID-19 Response Mechanism, which operated from 2021 to 2025.

These resources bolstered laboratory networks, disease monitoring systems, and emergency infrastructure. Dr. Temitope Ilori, the Director-General of NACA, emphasized that these pandemic-era upgrades are now embedded in the nation’s health security strategy. The agency highlighted that these efforts not only addressed the immediate impact of COVID-19 but also shielded ongoing programs tackling HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria.

Key advancements include improvements in oxygen supply chains, cold-chain logistics, and the professional capacity of the healthcare workforce. Tajudeen Ibrahim, Executive Secretary of the Country Coordinating Mechanism, noted that the success of these initiatives underscores the value of effective international partnerships. He urged for the continued maintenance of these systems to ensure a durable and resilient national healthcare framework.
