Kano High Court Postpones Ganduje Trial to October 14

A Kano State High Court has delayed the corruption trial of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and his co-defendants until October 14 to allow for the hearing of pending motions.

Proceedings in the trial of Abdullahi Ganduje, the former Governor of Kano State, and seven co-defendants have been moved to October 14. The group faces an 11-count indictment involving allegations of bribery, conspiracy, and the diversion of state funds totaling billions of naira.

Alongside Ganduje, his wife Hafsat Umar and several other individuals and companies are named as defendants. These include Abubakar Bawuro, Abdullahi Umar, Jibrilla Muhammad, and the corporate entities Lamash Properties Ltd, Safari Textiles Ltd, and Lasage General Enterprises Ltd.

During Wednesday’s session, lead prosecutor Victor Oni requested permission to replace a March 31 motion with a newer filing dated May 15. This updated motion includes a counter-affidavit addressing a preliminary objection raised by the sixth defendant. Defense attorneys for the various parties indicated they had no opposition to the prosecutor’s request. Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu officially withdrew the older motion and scheduled the hearing for the pending preliminary objections on the new October date.
