Ben Stokes issues apology to England teammates ahead of Test comeback

Ben Stokes has apologized to the England squad as he prepares to lead the team again in the third Test against New Zealand following a disciplinary investigation.

Ben Stokes has expressed remorse to his teammates before resuming his role as England captain for the third Test against New Zealand at Trent Bridge. Along with fast bowler Gus Atkinson, Stokes was sidelined for the second Test while an investigation took place regarding a breach of the team’s midnight curfew and a nightclub incident in London.

Following a review by the Cricket Regulator, both players were cleared of allegations involving violent conduct, allowing their return to the squad for the upcoming match. The England and Wales Cricket Board did issue the pair a formal written warning for violating contractual terms.

Reflecting on the situation, Stokes emphasized that taking accountability is a necessary part of his leadership duties. He noted that his actions distracted from the achievements of teammates who were making their international debuts. Stokes acknowledged that a leader must be willing to face the group and address the impact of their conduct when things go wrong.
