MACBAN Reports Fatal Ambush of Two Herders in Plateau State

MACBAN claims local militia killed two Fulani herders in a violent ambush in Plateau State, prompting calls for urgent security intervention.

The Plateau State branch of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has reported that local militia members killed two Fulani herders in an ambush near Talma village, located in the Ngel District of Jos South Local Government Area.

Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, the state chairman of MACBAN, informed the press on Tuesday that the incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Monday. The victims, identified as 28-year-old Sadiq Muhammad and 29-year-old Mas’ud Abdullahi, were returning to their cattle enclosure when they were intercepted. Babayo stated the attack was unprovoked, as the herders were not near any farmlands.

According to the chairman, the assailants opened fire on the victims and further mutilated their bodies by removing their eyes. A survivor named Ismaila Haruna reported that he was riding a motorcycle with the two victims when gunmen opened fire. While Haruna managed to flee, the attackers ensured the death of the other two men. Haruna later guided security personnel from Operation Enduring Peace back to the site to recover the bodies.

Babayo expressed frustration regarding recurring violence in the Gyel District and urged security agencies to arrest the perpetrators. He warned that the community would not accept any attempt to downplay the incident while calling for members of his organization to remain law-abiding.
