The Catholic Diocese of Otukpo officially reported the kidnapping of Kelvin Ochai, a seminarian, after an armed assault at the Bishop’s residence located in Asa III, Benue State. This incident took place during the evening of Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the property belonging to Most Rev. Michael Apochi, the Catholic Bishop of Otukpo.
Rev. Fr. Joseph Itodo, serving as the Diocesan Chancellor, released an announcement confirming the abduction and requesting prayers for the student’s wellbeing. Bishop Apochi shared his deep sorrow regarding the event and encouraged the community to provide spiritual support for the Ochai family during this difficult time. The Diocese emphasized that they are working diligently to ensure Kelvin Ochai is returned home safely.
Furthermore, the Church extended its prayers to all individuals currently held by kidnappers throughout Nigeria, placing them under divine protection. Local law enforcement, represented by Benue State Police spokesperson DSP Peter Aondongu, acknowledged the crime and noted that an official investigation is now underway.
