Ayodeji Ologun criticizes Peter Obi for urging President Tinubu to resign

Ayodeji Ologun of the Centre for Responsive Governance has dismissed Peter Obi’s call for President Tinubu to resign, arguing that leadership changes must occur through the ballot box and criticizing Obi for allegedly spreading misinformation.

Ayodeji Ologun, the General Executive Director at the Centre for Responsive Governance, has warned Peter Obi against demanding the resignation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Ologun argues that Obi’s stance does not reflect the broader public opinion of Nigerians. While he acknowledges the right of citizens to demand government accountability, he maintains that leadership transitions should be determined at the polls.

This response follows Peter Obi’s recent suggestion that President Tinubu should resign, citing the current administration’s failure to manage Nigeria’s economic and social difficulties. During a radio interview on Eagle 102.5 FM, Ologun dismissed Obi’s call as a purely political maneuver. He pointed out that democratically elected leaders globally rarely vacate their offices voluntarily, regardless of external pressure or poor performance.

Ologun further criticized Obi’s credibility, alleging that the politician frequently relies on inaccurate statistics. He urged the public to verify claims made by public figures rather than accepting them as objective facts. Ultimately, Ologun asserted that elected officials should complete their terms unless faced with severe health crises or formal impeachment processes, rather than bowing to singular calls for resignation.
