The Ondo State Police Command has taken three people into custody following the passing of 71-year-old Elder Omotayo Fajana. The cleric, associated with the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, was found dead under unclear conditions in Akungba-Akoko. Fajana had visited the Akoko South-West Local Government Area to be installed as the Baba Aladura of the Ogo Orimolade Cherubim and Seraphim Church.
Public concern has grown due to reports that his body was transported from a hotel to a mortuary in Ikare-Akoko without the required medical death certification. The deceased’s nephew, Olaseni Sunday Olaoluwa, alerted the Akungba Police Division and requested an inquiry into the event.
State Police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed on Monday that an investigation is underway. Three suspects are currently being questioned. Initial reports suggest that hotel staff and church members moved the remains before official medical verification. Police Commissioner Felix Ohagwu has ordered a full investigation to uncover if foul play occurred, promising that those responsible will face legal consequences.
