The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has officially dismissed reports alleging that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), purchased 69 nomination forms in Kano State. The party described these allegations as entirely fabricated and a form of political mischief.
Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the National Chairman of the PRP, addressed the controversy during an appearance on ARISE Television’s ‘The Morning Show.’ He clarified that the individual claiming to represent the party in Kano is not recognized by the organization and holds no authority. According to Baba-Ahmed, the party does not sell nomination forms in Kano, as all transactions are processed in Abuja. He noted that official candidates have already completed their primary processes through legitimate channels.
Furthermore, Baba-Ahmed revealed that both Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso had previously considered joining the PRP before choosing the NDC. He stated that the discussions were amicable and the parties simply decided their interests were not aligned. Addressing internal party dynamics, he asserted that the PRP is not experiencing a crisis and has successfully moved past previous legal or procedural hurdles. He dismissed a recent court challenge by Engr. Yakubu Kingsley as a standard democratic procedure rather than a sign of instability.
Looking toward the 2027 election cycle, the party intends to present itself as a viable alternative to existing major political structures. Baba-Ahmed emphasized that the party is developing a new manifesto and a clear strategy to address Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges, stressing that while dialogue is a possibility, the safety of citizens remains the absolute priority.
