The recruitment exercise for the Nigerian Army in Oyo State is facing challenges due to a disappointing number of applicants appearing for screening. Officials from the Federal Character Commission (FCC) have voiced apprehension regarding this trend, noting that it threatens the goal of balanced federal representation.
Out of 941 individuals initially invited for the screening, a mere 472 showed up at the 2 Mechanised Division within the Adekunle Fajuyi Military Cantonment in Ibadan. Prince Ayodeji Abass Aleshinloye, the FCC Commissioner for Oyo State, criticized the applicants’ apparent lack of interest, emphasizing that the turnout was insufficient given the state’s population.
Beyond the low attendance, many candidates arrived unprepared. A majority failed to bring original documentation, while others faced issues with discrepancies that needed immediate correction. Aleshinloye cautioned that candidates who cannot provide valid and complete paperwork face potential disqualification.
To address these gaps, the Commissioner urged local stakeholders, including traditional, religious, and community leaders, to bolster grassroots awareness regarding federal recruitment processes. He reaffirmed the FCC’s dedication to maintaining fairness and equity in government hiring. However, he reminded citizens that responsibility lies with the applicants to fulfill all procedural requirements if they wish to secure these national opportunities.
