Suspected Lakurawa militants obstruct Mokwa–New Bussa Road in Niger State

Suspected Lakurawa militants caused significant traffic disruptions and public alarm by blocking the Mokwa–New Bussa Road in Niger State, until security forces intervened.

On Monday, individuals believed to be members of the Lakurawa terrorist faction obstructed the Mokwa–New Bussa Road within Niger State, triggering widespread alarm among locals and drivers. A large group of armed men on motorcycles set up a blockade near Zurgurma, located in the Mashegu Local Government Area, which halted traffic and compelled travelers to find different paths.

Reports indicate the militants entered Zurgurma and neighboring villages, sparking panic and causing many motorists to avoid the route due to safety fears. This activity briefly stalled local commerce and daily routines. Niger State Police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, verified the event and noted that a combined security force was quickly deployed to the scene.

Abiodun stated that the arrival of security personnel successfully pushed the militants to retreat into the nearby Ibbi Forest. He emphasized that law enforcement is currently patrolling the area to prevent future threats and protect those using the road. This event serves as a reminder of the ongoing security challenges facing transport routes in Niger State despite active military operations.
