All Progressives Congress stalwart Joe Igbokwe has criticized activist Omoyele Sowore, suggesting that his consistent disparagement of President Bola Tinubu does not constitute a legitimate professional path. This reaction follows a Monday ruling by the Abuja Federal High Court, which ordered Sowore to be held in Kuje Prison after he allegedly failed to show up for court proceedings concerning comments posted on his social media.
Sowore is currently facing prosecution for reportedly labeling the Nigerian president a criminal. Supporting the court’s decision, Igbokwe took to Facebook to argue that insulting the president is an inappropriate activity. He further accused the activist of acting outside the legal framework, pointing to various protest movements orchestrated by him. Igbokwe asserted that Nigeria is a nation governed by law and characterized Sowore’s history of organizing demonstrations, disrupting public order, and allegedly encouraging violence in the South East as unacceptable behaviors that should not be viewed as a career.
