Nigerian Navy Conducts Waterway Rescue and Seizes Large Fuel Cache

The Nigerian Navy successfully rescued three people from a sunken boat in Warri and seized over 63,000 litres of illicit fuel during operations in Rivers State.

Personnel from the Nigerian Navy recently saved three individuals whose vessel overturned on the Bennett River in Warri, Delta State. According to Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the Navy’s Director of Information, the NNS Delta team initiated a rescue mission after identifying the capsized boat during a security patrol. The passengers were rescued and received medical care at the NNS Delta Sick Bay after the incident, which was attributed to extreme weather and intense storms. This event underscores the Navy’s commitment to maritime safety and emergency response.

In an unrelated mission in Rivers State, the Nigerian Navy secured 63,290 litres of suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil. Acting on intelligence, NNS SOROH personnel raided the Okolomade Community within the Abua-Odual Local Government Area. They intercepted a Toyota Camry transporting 17 sacks of the fuel, followed by the discovery of 56 additional sacks hidden within the Orashi Forest. The Navy continues to prioritize Operation Delta Sentinel to mitigate oil theft and illegal refining activities across the Niger Delta.
