The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is standing by the removal of its former Third Directorate of State (DOS) members. Solomon Egbo, the Deputy Head of the new Fourth DOS, stated that these individuals compromised Nnamdi Kanu’s leadership and endangered the group’s stability.
In a Monday announcement, Egbo called the dismissal essential. He claimed the ousted leaders breached the movement’s constitution by abandoning Kanu during his detention and failing to support his medical needs. The former officials were also accused of obstructing fundraising efforts and interfering with legal strategies, specifically by clashing with Kanu’s defense team and ignoring orders to sever ties with former lawyer Ifeanyi Ejiofor.
Egbo further asserted that the expelled group failed to capitalize on the October 2022 Court of Appeal ruling that favored Kanu. Instead, he claimed they spread falsehoods about Kanu’s family to undermine his authority and suggested that the President would only grant release if the Biafran cause was abandoned. The organization also accused them of unauthorized administrative changes and creating competing power structures.
These expulsions are permanent and effective immediately. Supporters are now encouraged to support the Fourth DOS under Chris Nwaọgụ, as the group continues to focus on securing Kanu’s release and their pursuit of Biafra. This transition follows rising internal friction after the dissolution of the previous command structure.
