Philip Agbese Labels Resignation Demands Against President Tinubu as Politically Driven

Lawmaker Philip Agbese has dismissed calls for President Tinubu’s resignation as politically motivated, urging opposition members to focus on supporting national security efforts instead.

Philip Agbese, a House of Representatives member from Benue State, has criticized recent demands from the Minority Caucus for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to step down due to national security concerns. Agbese characterized these calls as politically motivated maneuvers that fail to contribute meaningfully to resolving the country’s instability.

Representing the Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, the Labour Party lawmaker argued that combating insecurity demands unified national effort and closer cooperation with security forces. He dismissed the push by Minority Leader Fred Agbedi as mere political posturing, noting that it undermines the current efforts of security agencies currently intensifying operations against criminal factions.

Agbese suggested that these calls are strategic attempts to influence the 2027 general elections rather than expressions of genuine public concern. He expressed apprehension that some opposition figures are being manipulated by outside interests eager to displace the current administration. According to the lawmaker, Nigeria’s security challenges are long-standing issues that require sustained investment, improved intelligence, and cross-party cooperation rather than divisive rhetoric.

Highlighting the upcoming legislative engagement with security chiefs, Agbese praised the dedication of military and intelligence personnel. He urged citizens and political leaders to prioritize national stability over partisan goals, emphasizing that public support is vital for the success of ongoing security operations. The lawmaker also voiced his trust in President Tinubu’s administration to continue strengthening the nation’s security architecture.
