Egypt Becomes Fourth African Nation to Secure Victory at 2026 World Cup

Egypt defeated New Zealand 3-1, becoming the fourth African nation to win a match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

On Monday morning, Egypt solidified its position as the fourth African squad to clinch a victory in the current 2026 FIFA World Cup. The North African team successfully overcame an initial deficit to defeat New Zealand 3-1 during their second Group G encounter at BC Place in Vancouver.

The Pharaohs secured the win through individual goals by Mostafa Ziko, Mohamed Salah, and Trezeguet. This result follows their earlier 1-1 draw against Belgium during their tournament opener. Previously, Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Morocco also achieved victories. Ivory Coast defeated Ecuador 1-0, Ghana bested Panama 1-0, and Morocco triumphed over Scotland with a 1-0 scoreline. Meanwhile, several other African nations—including Senegal, Cape Verde, DR Congo, Algeria, South Africa, and Tunisia—are still searching for their first win of the competition.
