Newcastle United turns down £80m Tottenham approach for Sandro Tonali

Newcastle United has rejected an £80 million bid from Tottenham Hotspur for midfielder Sandro Tonali, holding out for a valuation closer to £100 million.

Newcastle United has dismissed an £80 million offer from Tottenham Hotspur for Sandro Tonali. Sources indicate the proposal was formally declined earlier this week.

Tottenham manager Roberto de Zerbi has long expressed interest in the 26-year-old Italian, leading the club to evaluate the financial feasibility of an acquisition. Despite this interest, Newcastle remains firm, reportedly seeking a fee closer to £100 million as other top-tier clubs like Manchester City and Arsenal observe the situation.

While Newcastle recently facilitated the departure of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona, chief executive David Hopkinson maintains that the club will only conduct transfers on their own financial terms. Tonali, who committed to a long-term deal through 2030 during his previous suspension, remains a key figure at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle potentially benefits from a competitive market, especially with high valuations for other midfielders. For context, Nottingham Forest recently rejected a £120 million bid from Manchester City for Elliot Anderson, while West Ham is holding out for an £80 million fee for Mateus Fernandes.
