A 30-year-old man has been remanded by the court in Edo for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl.

A High Court in Benin City, Edo State on Monday, May 6, ordered the remand of one Osasumwen Vincent, at a correctional facility for allegedly raping an 11 years old girl.

 

The suspect was arraigned on one count charge bordering on rape.

 

He, however, pleaded not guilty.

 

Justice Efe Ikponmwonba subsequently adjourned the case until June 10 for a hearing.

 

The state prosecutor, Hamma Iyamu, earlier said the suspect sometime in October 2022 at Ohovbe Quarters in Benin Juridical Division forcefully raped an 11-years old girl.

According to the prosecution, the suspect committed an offence contrary to section 4 and punishable under section 5 (1) of the Edo State Violence Against Persons (prohibition) law, 2021.

 

“The suspect committed the offence in October 2022 at Ohovbe Quarters in Benin Juridical Division and forcefully raped an 11-years old girl,” Iyamu said.

“The suspect committed an offence contrary to section 4 and punishable under section 5 (1) of the Edo State Violence Against Persons (prohibition) law, 2021.”
