Marcus Onobun, the representative for Esan Central/Esan West/Igueben Federal Constituency, has officially contested the results of the recent All Progressives Congress primary election.
He asserts that he is the legitimate winner of the contest and has requested that the party acknowledge him as such.
In a petition filed on Sunday with the APC Primary Election Petitions Committee, Onobun argued that documentation from individual wards confirms he received the most valid votes. He has asked the committee to conduct a thorough review of the ward-level data, including reports from observers and party representatives.
The current party declaration named Lucky Esiegbe as the winner, a decision Onobun disputes. He pointed out that the party utilized a direct primary system, giving all registered members across the 30 wards a vote.
Onobun further claimed that the collation process suffered from significant irregularities and a failure to adhere to standard procedures.
Previously a member of the Peoples Democratic Party and a former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Onobun joined the APC in July 2025. He cited leadership instability and internal friction as the primary reasons for leaving his former political party.
