An employee of the car dealership Ominyimotors recently shared a firsthand account of his narrow escape from armed assailants on a highway in Kogi State.
While transporting a vehicle to Abuja, the driver encountered a group of gunmen who had blocked the road and were forcibly removing travelers from their vehicles.
The driver detailed the harrowing experience in an online video, explaining that he abandoned his vehicle after the attackers pointed firearms at him. He described how the gunmen herded approximately seven captives into the surrounding bush.
Despite being under fire, the driver managed to flee the scene on foot and eventually reached Abuja by midnight to deliver the car.
The attack took place on the isolated Kabba road, a route notorious for frequent security threats and abductions. The driver noted that he was still in possession of the car keys when he ran for safety.
He also mentioned that a passenger who was unable to flee quickly enough was captured by the group. This incident further highlights the growing instability on highways connecting the capital to North Central Nigeria, where commuters face consistent risks of kidnapping.
