Bayern’s Managerial Saga: Ralf Rangnick’s Rejection and Squad Discord

Former Manchester United coach Ralf Rangnick has reportedly turned down the opportunity to step in as the new manager for Bayern Munich, following Thomas Tuchel’s departure.

Discussions between Bayern and Rangnick involved the possibility of him leaving his current position with Austria prematurely. However, Rangnick has committed to seeing out his contract with Austria until it expires in 2026. He is set to lead them into Euro 2024 this summer, according to report.

Rangnick emerged as Bayern’s third choice for Tuchel’s replacement, with Xabi Alonso of Bayern Leverkusen and Germany’s Julian Nagelsmann preceding him. Tuchel’s departure from Bayern was announced in February, amid reports of divisions within the squad. Allegedly, players like Harry Kane and Manuel Neuer supported Tuchel, while Thomas Muller and Joshua Kimmich were against him.

Despite Bayern’s presence in the Champions League semi-finals, they have fallen short in the Bundesliga title race after 11 consecutive victories. Additionally, they suffered an unexpected exit from the DFB-Pokal at the hands of third-tier side Saarbrucken.

In their recent Champions League encounter against Real Madrid, the first leg concluded in a 2-2 draw. Goals from Leroy Sane and Harry Kane were matched by strikes from Vinicius Junior, setting up an intriguing second leg.
