Severe Neglect Plagues Healthcare Facilities in Governor Aiyedatiwa’s Home Region
New reports indicate that public health centers in the Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, the home region of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, are facing critical infrastructure failure and staffing shortages.
Despite being an oil-producing area, residents claim these vital medical facilities have been largely overlooked by the state government.
Investigations conducted by SaharaReporters, supported by visual evidence, reveal a landscape of abandoned buildings, damaged equipment, and a lack of medical staff. The situation varies across several communities:
-
- Igbokoda Primary Health Centre: While the structure remains, local residents report that the hospital beds are in such poor condition that they hinder effective patient care, prompting urgent calls for replacements.
- Orioke Iwamimo Health Centre: Observers found this facility locked and non-operational, with the physical structure reportedly deteriorating.
- Ebuta Ipare Health Centre: The building suffers from severe decay, including crumbling ceilings, peeling walls, and a complete lack of basic utilities like water and functional beds.
- General Hospital Igbokoda: Serving as the main referral center for the region, it reportedly operates with only a single doctor. It also lacks essential diagnostic tools like X-ray and scanning machines, and its solar power system is broken.
- Motoro and Gbabijo Health Centres: Motoro has been entirely deserted, while Gbabijo has been partially destroyed by weather, rendering the remaining structure hazardous.
- Idiogba Health Centre: Residents describe the building as being in a state of disrepair that requires immediate government attention.

These findings highlight a significant gap between government claims of healthcare investment and the reality on the ground in rural and riverine areas. For many vulnerable residents, these failing facilities represent their only access to medical services.
