Activist Israel Joe Summoned to Abuja Following Clashes with Delta Police Command
The Force Intelligence Department of the Nigeria Police has summoned activist Israel Joe to Abuja for questioning. The police allege his involvement in a case concerning a missing person, cyberbullying, and actions potentially disrupting public peace.
An official letter dated April 8, 2026, and signed by DCP Zainab A. Pembi, instructs Joe to report to the Deputy Inspector General of Police at the Force Intelligence Department in Area 11, Garki, on April 10, 2026. The department claims Joe is a person of interest in an active investigation.
Israel Joe contends that the summons is a retaliatory move stemming from his vocal criticism of a controversial police operation in Delta State.
Joe previously accused Deputy Commissioner of Police Muyiwa Adejobi and his team of conducting an illegal raid, which allegedly involved the detention of approximately 270 individuals, unauthorized vehicle seizures, and extortion.
The activist has refused to retract his claims despite legal threats from Adejobi’s legal representatives. Joe challenged the police to produce evidence or charge the arrested individuals in court rather than relying on intimidation.
Furthermore, he criticized the potential filing of a lawsuit in Osun State, labeling the attempt as forum shopping.
Beyond the initial raid, Joe connected recent police conduct to broader allegations of abuse, including a death reported in Ubeji. He argues that such operations have negatively impacted the security environment in areas like Warri, Uvwie, and Ughelli. Despite the mounting pressure from authorities, Joe maintains he is prepared for any legal confrontation.
