Post-Match Reflections: PSG Players Jubilant, Liverpool Defender Offers Hope After UCL Clash
Following their UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg, players from Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool shared their immediate reactions to the decisive encounter.
PSG secured a 2-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield, England, on Tuesday night. Forward Ousmane Dembele netted both goals, propelling the Parisian side into the Champions League semi-finals.
This result meant the French Ligue 1 champions advanced with a commanding 4-0 aggregate win, building on their 2-0 first-leg triumph in Paris last week.
PSG Reactions
PSG forward Ousmane Dembele expressed his joy, stating,
“We are extremely happy to have won this match, which proved very challenging, particularly in the second half. Despite the difficulty, we found a path to victory and have progressed to the semi-finals, which delights us.”
He added, “I believe we are performing at the same standard as last season. Our ambition is to secure trophies, and we intend to compete fiercely until the competition’s conclusion.”
Captain Marquinhos told Canal+: “Liverpool leveraged their strengths, yet we maintained our defensive solidity. Eventually, we found the net. It’s crucial to possess that capability and resilience during difficult moments. We understood that the first leg didn’t guarantee qualification, so our mindset was focused purely on winning.”
Goalkeeper Matvei Safonov for PSG echoed these sentiments, remarking, “We are undoubtedly very pleased. It was an exceptionally tough game. We’re happy to have secured the win. We demonstrated our determination to triumph here, which matters greatly. Reaching the semi-finals is a deeply emotional and wonderful experience.”
Liverpool’s Perspective
Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate offered a different perspective, noting, “We should be positive, as several players, such as Isak, have returned from injury. PSG has improved somewhat since last season, and to deliver a performance like ours against them… Although we lost, we must learn from this and recognize our potential.”
