Major Drug Bust: 1.6 Tons of Narcotics Seized Beneath Cabbages in Thailand
Thai authorities have successfully intercepted a massive shipment of illegal drugs, discovering 1.6 tons of narcotics concealed under a cargo of cabbages.
During a weekend operation in the Ayutthaya province, police stopped a pickup truck at a gas station and uncovered 900 kilograms of ketamine alongside 700 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine.
The 39-year-old driver was taken into custody on Saturday and reportedly admitted to being paid 100,000 baht (approximately $3,000) to transport the illicit haul.
Investigators believe the drugs originated from a neighboring country, highlighting Thailand’s role as a primary transit point for regional trafficking.
This seizure follows a significant surge in narcotics production in Southeast Asia, with regional methamphetamine seizures reaching record highs in recent years. If convicted, the driver faces a potential sentence ranging from 15 years to life imprisonment.
