Billion-Dollar Fee Proposed for Permanent Seats on Gaza “Board of Peace”
A U.S. official has revealed that permanent membership on President Donald Trump’s newly proposed “Board of Peace”—a committee tasked with Gaza’s reconstruction—requires a $1 billion contribution.
While participation itself does not necessitate a fee, those who do not pay are restricted to three-year terms.
The funds generated are intended for rebuilding efforts, with the official stating the model aims to eliminate the high administrative costs often associated with international aid organizations.
Chaired by Trump, the panel is expected to feature high-profile figures including Tony Blair, Mark Carney, Marco Rubio, Jared Kushner, and World Bank President Ajay Banga. The board is a cornerstone of a UN-endorsed plan to demilitarize and revitalize Gaza following two years of war.
Each member will manage a specific portfolio essential to regional stability. Notably, the Palestinian Authority has been excluded from the board, despite expectations that it will eventually govern Gaza following major reforms.
Under the proposed governance framework, daily operations in Gaza would be handled by a Palestinian technocratic committee, supported by a “Gaza executive board” featuring representatives from Egypt, the UAE, Turkey, and Qatar.
However, the inclusion of Turkey and Qatar has drawn sharp criticism from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He argued the plan was not coordinated with Israel and expressed opposition to involving nations he claims are supportive of Hamas.
