US to Deport 400 Iranians Under Trump’s Immigration Crackdown

The United States is preparing to deport around 400 Iranians, most of whom entered the country illegally, as part of President Donald Trump’s intensified immigration measures.

Hossein Noushabadi, Iran’s director general for parliament affairs at the foreign ministry, confirmed the plan in remarks to the semi-official Tasnim news agency on Tuesday. He said the first group of 120 deportees, many of whom crossed into the US via Mexico, would arrive in Iran within days.

According to the New York Times, the move follows months of talks between Washington and Tehran, an unusual instance of cooperation between the two governments. The newspaper reported that a US-chartered flight departed Louisiana on Monday and was expected to land in Iran via Qatar on Tuesday.

While some of the deportees volunteered to leave after spending months in detention centers, others did not. Noushabadi noted that a few had held residence permits but were still included on the deportation list due to US immigration rulings. “Of course, their own consent was obtained for their return,” he said.

The Iranian official urged Washington to uphold the rights of Iranian migrants affected by the policy.

Neither the White House nor the US State Department immediately responded to requests for comment.

The deportations form part of Trump’s pledge to remove a record number of undocumented migrants from the United States. The president has repeatedly criticized his predecessor, Joe Biden, accusing him of allowing high levels of illegal border crossings.
