Jimmy Kimmel Live! Returns to ABC, but Sinclair Stations Still Blocking Broadcast
Jimmy Kimmel Live! is set to return to ABC on Tuesday, September 23, after a brief suspension — but some viewers still won’t be able to watch.
Sinclair Broadcast Group, which owns numerous ABC affiliates nationwide, announced that it will continue to preempt the late-night show and air news programming instead. The company said discussions with ABC are ongoing as it considers whether to bring the show back to its stations.
Kimmel’s suspension followed backlash over remarks he made about conservative figure Charlie Kirk’s alleged killer, leading Sinclair and Nexstar to drop the program from their ABC affiliates. The decision was reportedly influenced by pressure from President Trump’s FCC.
Disney, ABC’s parent company, temporarily pulled the show network-wide but has now confirmed its return. However, viewers in areas served by Sinclair-owned stations will still be unable to watch until a resolution is reached.
