1990 World Cup Winner Frank Mill Dies At 67 After Heart Attack
Frank Mill, a 1990 FIFA World Cup winner with West Germany, has passed away at the age of 67. His death was confirmed on Tuesday.
Mill succumbed to complications from a severe heart attack suffered in May. Over a distinguished career, he earned 17 caps for West Germany and was part of the victorious 1990 World Cup squad, though he did not feature in any match during the tournament in Italy.
Beyond his World Cup success, Mill also won a bronze medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympics and lifted the German Cup with Borussia Dortmund. His football journey saw him leave a lasting impact at clubs like Rot-Weiss Essen, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Borussia Dortmund, and Fortuna Düsseldorf.
In a heartfelt tribute, his hometown club Essen hailed him as “a legend” and “an ambassador for football across the country.”
Mill is the second member of the iconic 1990 West Germany squad to pass on, following Andreas Brehme, who famously scored the winning penalty in the final against Argentina.
The football world mourns the loss of a player whose dedication and passion transcended club loyalties and whose name remains etched in Germany’s football folklore.
