PDP Confirms Efforts to Woo Peter Obi Back Into Party Ahead of 2027 Elections
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed that it is actively working to bring back Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, into its fold.
This was revealed by the PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, during an interview on Arise Television. Abdullahi described Obi as a “valuable political asset” whose return would significantly enhance the party’s prospects in future elections.
“Peter Obi is our product. We want to get him back, indeed, because he is a very, very great capital for any political party,” Abdullahi said.
He praised Obi’s performance in the 2023 general elections, where the former Anambra State governor secured over six million votes nationwide, despite what Abdullahi called “massive rigging” and “deliberate frustration” in several states.
Abdullahi acknowledged that Obi’s departure from the PDP before the 2023 polls was a major blow to the party but stressed that it had not diminished the respect he still commands within the PDP.
“Every political party that gets the opportunity to have him will be at an advantage. And certainly, PDP is not giving up on that effort,” he said.
The PDP spokesperson added that the party is undergoing internal consultations and long-term strategic planning to unify the opposition in preparation for the 2027 general elections. Bringing Obi back, he noted, is part of that broader strategy.
“In the fullness of time, we believe we might get him back. It will be a big boost to the PDP,” Abdullahi concluded.
