The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 11 students from Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi, in connection with the murder of two fellow students.

Command spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna, disclosed the arrests in a statement to PUNCH Online on Thursday, stating that the students are currently being interrogated to determine their level of involvement in the incident.

“Eleven students were arrested over the incident and the investigation is ongoing to find out the level of their individual involvement,” Haruna said.

He assured that the police are committed to thoroughly investigating the killings and ensuring that all those responsible are brought to justice.

In response to the incident, the Kano State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, on Wednesday directed a comprehensive probe into the deaths. This order was conveyed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Bashir Bappa Mohammad, during a visit to the school.

The victims, identified as Hamza Idris Tofawa and Umar Yusuf Dungurawa, were reportedly attacked by fellow students using improvised metal weapons locally referred to as “Gwale-Gwale.”
