Ogun First Lady Launches Free Surgical Outreach, Urges Wealthy Nigerians To Give Back
Wife of the Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, has called on affluent Nigerians to support the less privileged, emphasizing that “what we have in excess could be life-saving for someone else.”
She made the appeal on Wednesday while launching a free surgical outreach at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) in Sagamu, in collaboration with a team of U.S.-based surgeons.
The outreach offers free surgeries for indigent residents suffering from hernia, fibroids, goitre, and cataracts.
Abiodun, who has partnered with the medical team for years, stressed the need to teach children generosity by example.
“God didn’t give us wealth for ourselves alone—we must support others,” she said.
So far, 51 surgeries have been completed in two days, with over 175 patients on the waiting list.
Dr. Musbau Kasumu, leader of the visiting medical team, said their work complements the government’s efforts to deliver quality healthcare. The team also donated a multimillion-naira endoscope machine to OOUTH to aid early cancer detection.
OOUTH’s CMD, Dr. Oluwabunmi Fatungase, hailed the collaboration as a major boost to cancer diagnostics, especially for “silent killers” like colon cancer.
