NAPTIP: Legally Speaking, This Individual Actually Has A Point – Lawyer Ayo Shonaiya Reacts To Speed Darlington’s Defence

Lawyer and entertainment consultant Ayo Shonaiya has stated that, legally speaking, controversial singer Speed Darlington may have a point in his refusal to honor the invitation from the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

Shonaiya made the remark in response to a video where Speed Darlington insisted he would not comply with NAPTIP’s summons following a viral clip in which he claimed to have slept with a 15-year-old girl and even paid a staff of the hotel N2000 to clean her blood afterwards.

After repeatedly ignoring their invitations, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) officially declared Speed Darlington wanted last Friday.

In the latest development, Speed Darlington has doubled down in a new video, insisting he will not honor NAPTIP’s invitation.

He claimed that his controversial statement was merely “irresponsible talk,” which he argues is not a criminal offense. According to him, since there is no concrete evidence against him, the agency has no grounds to invite him for questioning.

He further mocked the situation by saying he charges ₦2.5 million for appearances and that NAPTIP would have to pay him that amount if they wanted him to show up at their office.

Reacting to the singer’s defiant stance, lawyer and entertainment consultant Ayo Shonaiya stated that while he does not intend to downplay the seriousness of the matter, Speed Darlington may, from a legal standpoint, have a valid argument—particularly if the agency lacks hard evidence and is relying solely on the content of the video.
