Israel has officially designated Iran’s central bank as a terrorist organization, just one day after a ceasefire took effect between the two nations following nearly two weeks of intense cross-border conflict.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that he had signed a special directive declaring the Central Bank of Iran, two other Iranian financial institutions, and a military-linked Iranian company as terrorist organizations.

The move comes just a day after Israel and Iran agreed to a ceasefire, brokered by the United States and Qatar, bringing an end to 12 days of intense missile and drone exchanges.

The recent escalation was triggered by U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, which prompted a forceful Iranian response, including missile attacks on Israeli cities. One such strike hit the Ramat Aviv neighborhood in Tel Aviv, injuring at least 16 people.

The long-standing shadow war between Israel and Iran intensified in October following the Hamas-led attack on Israel, which escalated into a wider conflict involving Iranian-backed groups such as Hezbollah, the Houthis, and militias in Iraq.

Despite the ceasefire, Israel’s military chief, Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, made it clear that the country’s broader strategic confrontation with Iran is far from resolved.

“We have concluded a significant phase but the campaign against Iran is not over. We are entering a new phase based on the achievements of the current one,” Zamir said in a statement Tuesday.
