Brazilian Vice President Arrives In Nigeria For Strategic Dialogue
Brazil’s Vice President, Geraldo Alckmin, and his wife, Maria Alckmin, arrived in Nigeria on Tuesday, June 24, to attend the Second Session of the Nigeria-Brazil Strategic Dialogue Mechanism (SDM), marking a significant advancement in diplomatic and economic ties between both nations.
Their delegation landed at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, where they were welcomed by senior Nigerian officials, including Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hadejia, and Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole.
Also on hand to receive the visitors were the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha, and the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari.

The visit is seen as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s South-South diplomatic relations, with hopes for tangible policy progress across multiple sectors.
During a brief reception at the airport, Senator Ibrahim Hadejia described the occasion as “a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” emphasizing the importance of strengthening strategic ties with Brazil. He pointed to Brazil’s expertise in agribusiness, industrial development, and energy transition as areas that closely align with Nigeria’s national development objectives.
“This dialogue mechanism represents our commitment to leveraging South-South partnerships that deliver tangible benefits to our citizens,” Hadejia stated.
The three-day summit is expected to conclude with the signing of over 30 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), addressing key sectors including defence cooperation, agricultural technology transfer, energy collaboration, and cultural exchange programs.
