FUTO Student Bleeds After Attack by Machete-Wielding Men
A student from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), has been hospitalized following a brutal machete attack that has sent waves of fear through the university community.
According to eyewitness accounts, the student was en route to the market on a motorcycle when he was ambushed by unidentified assailants wielding machetes. A harrowing video circulated online shows the victim with deep lacerations on his head, his white jersey soaked red with blood as he bled profusely.
While speculation has spread that the attackers may have been herdsmen, there has been no official confirmation of their identities. In the video, those recording the scene referred to the assailants only as “they,” offering no clarity on the motive or affiliations behind the assault.
Witnesses claim the attackers also stole the student’s phone and power bank before fleeing.
The incident has heightened security concerns among students and staff, with many calling for a stronger protective presence around the university and its surrounding communities. Authorities have yet to issue a formal statement on the matter, and investigations are reportedly underway.
