Joint Security Operatives Arrest 14, Seize Weapons and Counterfeit Currency in Jigawa
Security operatives in Jigawa State have cracked down on a criminal syndicate operating in Digawa village, Birnin Kudu LGA, arresting 14 suspects and recovering a stockpile of weapons, forged currency, and other illicit items.
The raid, carried out on June 12, 2025, was triggered by intelligence linking the group to fraudulent activities and a recent deadly attack on nearby Dumus village. That earlier attack, which occurred a day prior, left one person — 60-year-old Isma’il Ibrahim — dead and eight others injured.
In a press statement issued from Dutse, state capital, Police PRO SP Shi’isu Adam said:
“This operation underscores our commitment to safeguarding communities and rooting out criminal elements.”
The sweep yielded a significant haul, including:
-
9 fabricated pistols
-
27 Dane guns and 37 gun pieces
-
4 motorcycles
-
12 fake US dollars
-
188 suspected counterfeit Central African banknotes
-
A bow and arrow, metals, animal skins, and criminal charms
-
Crafting tools like files, saws, vices, and a blower
SP Adam confirmed all 14 male suspects are currently in custody, undergoing detailed interrogation. Once investigations are complete, they will be arraigned in court.
The victims of the June 11 attack have been taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kudu for autopsy and treatment, according to police.
