Seven Dead As Canoe Crashes In Sokoto
Seven people tragically lost their lives on Monday, June 2, after a canoe capsized while traveling from Gidan Husaini to Gwargawu village in Kambama Ward, Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The victims, all residents of Gidan Husaini, were commuting across a local waterway when the accident occurred.
Representing the Sokoto State Government, Commissioner for Finance Muhammadu Jabbi Shagari led a condolence delegation to the affected community.
He described the incident as a devastating loss for both the people of Shagari and the entire state, extending prayers for the deceased and asking Almighty Allah to grant them eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus.
Shagari also used the opportunity to urge residents who frequently travel by water to always wear lifejackets, noting that such precautions can be life-saving.
He issued a stern warning to canoe and boat operators to avoid overloading their vessels, a common but dangerous practice that heightens the risk of accidents.
