Kano Declares Unprecedentedly Long Eid-el-Kabir School Break
The Kano State Government has granted schoolchildren a one-and-a-half-week break in the middle of the term to mark the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
In an announcement, the government declared that all primary and secondary schools in the state would commence the holiday on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.
A statement signed by the Director of Public Enlightenment at the Ministry of Education, Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, specified that the holiday would extend until Sunday, June 15, 2025 for boarding students, while day students are expected to resume on Monday, June 16, 2025.
“Parents and guardians of students in boarding schools are requested to pick up their children by the early hours of Wednesday, June 4, 2025,” the statement said.
The statement further noted that the rest of the 2024/2025 academic calendar, including official public holidays, will remain unchanged.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, expressed appreciation to parents for their continued support and encouraged them to ensure their children return to school promptly after the break.
“I want to use this opportunity to appreciate the usual support and cooperation given to the Ministry by the good people of the state and also wish the students and pupils a successful Sallah break,” he said.
It should be recalled that in March 2025, there was public concern when the governments of three northern states—Katsina, Kebbi, and Bauchi—ordered all schools, both public and private, to go on break for the entire month of Ramadan. This occurred during the middle of a school term while schools across the country were still in session.
