Ex-Senate President Says Nigerians Would Testify If Tinubu Had Truly Improved the Economy

Former Senate President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Adolphus Wabara, has called President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s claim of reviving Nigeria’s economy an insult to millions of Nigerians facing hardship.

Wabara argued that if the President’s claim were accurate, Nigerians would be openly acknowledging the administration’s achievements without any need for persuasion.

He highlighted that the harsh realities on the ground—rising inflation, widespread hunger, and worsening poverty—contradict the President’s statements.

“The reality on the ground does not support President Tinubu’s claims. If he had truly improved the economy, Nigerians would be the first to testify,” Wabara said.

According to him, “It’s ironic that Mr. President is talking about economic revival when the economy is clearly deteriorating under his watch. The indices say otherwise. Poor and hungry Nigerians do not need a lecture on economic revival. The first sign of improvement will be reflected in market prices.”

Senator Adolphus Wabara urged President Tinubu to focus on implementing genuine economic reforms during the remainder of his tenure instead of making rhetorical statements. He called for a review of key economic policies, especially those involving multiple taxation, which he said are choking businesses and worsening living conditions for Nigerians.

Wabara also stressed the urgent need to tackle the country’s deteriorating security situation, pointing out that insecurity has disrupted farming activities and worsened food shortages.

He blamed the displacement of farmers in many rural communities on attacks by bandits and criminal herders.

Furthermore, Wabara accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of mismanaging what was once a thriving economy.

He recalled that under the PDP administration, Nigeria’s economy was ranked among the top two in Africa, but said the APC has since reversed those gains.
