ADC Accuses Tinubu’s Administration of Weaponizing Poverty
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has labeled the most notable achievement of President Bola Tinubu’s federal government as the deliberate exploitation of poverty across all sectors of society.
This assessment was made in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary and former Cross River State governorship candidate, Dr. Effiong Efa Nyong.
The statement claims Tinubu’s administration has ushered in a period of severe hardship for Nigerians, describing it as a new wave of slavery through the weaponization of poverty.
Dr. Nyong, a former broadcast journalist, added that the government has continually raised tariffs in nearly every aspect of daily life, including electricity, transport, communication, healthcare, and education, worsening the people’s suffering.
The ADC criticized the government for imposing multiple and excessive taxes, which have become commonplace.
The party noted that this hardship campaign began on Tinubu’s first day in office with the sudden announcement to remove the petroleum subsidy—a move the ADC called reckless and harmful, especially to young Nigerians.
Nyong also expressed disappointment that after ten years of APC rule, Nigerians have endured harsh conditions with little development, accompanied by state intimidation, recklessness, scandals, judicial inconsistencies, and legislative compromises reminiscent of George Orwell’s Animal Farm.
The opposition party further accused the APC of downplaying the country’s critical challenges while pressuring political opponents to join their ranks.
“What happened to the promises of good governance, economic growth, and national unity? Two years into the reign of the ‘messiah,’ our economy lies in shambles, the family unit is disintegrating, ritual killings are on the rise, and repentant terrorists now help massacre our sons and daughters, both on the battlefield and at home. One thing, however, the government does consistently: it lies. Propaganda, wrapped in boldness.”
