19-Year-Old UTME Candidate Receives Admission Notice 30 Minutes After Suicide Over ‘Low Score’

Nineteen-year-old Opesusi Faith Timilehin is reported to have taken her own life in Lagos State after receiving a score of 190 in the recently released JAMB results.

According to reports, Timilehin ingested a ‘Push Out’ rodenticide on Monday, May 12, 2025. Originally from Abeokuta, she lived in Odogunyan, Ikorodu, with her older sibling.

Neighbours remembered her as “gentle and humble,” and expressed deep sorrow at the news. A family member revealed that Timilehin, who had applied to study Microbiology, also sat the UTME last year.

Authorities and community members are mourning her loss, while calling attention to the pressures students face during exam season.

“She said her last year’s result was better than this year’s,” one of her close allies (name withheld) said.

According to reports, neighbours began noticing unusual behaviour from Timilehin when she visited her elder sister’s office and asked for palm oil to ease the pain she was experiencing—pain caused by ingesting poison earlier at home.

Her sister, unaware of what had happened, initially dismissed the request. It wasn’t until Timilehin’s condition worsened that she raised the alarm, drawing the attention of sympathisers nearby.

An eyewitness recounted that on the way to the hospital, Timilehin admitted to having taken poison at home before heading to her sister’s office.

Tragically, it was revealed that she had scored higher in the 2024 UTME than in this year’s 190. In a cruel twist of fate, she was granted provisional admission by JAMB just about 30 minutes after she was pronounced dead at Kolak Hospital in Odogunyan.

“The shocking revelation is that she received an admission message via her Gmail yesterday, immediately after she was confirmed dead at Kolak Hospital, Odogunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos,” the source revealed.

Meanwhile, upon hearing the tragic news, Timilehin’s parents reportedly arrived in Ikorodu to retrieve her remains for burial in Abeokuta. The incident sparked outrage among local residents, many of whom directed their anger toward JAMB, blaming the system and expressing their frustration with the pressure it places on young candidates.
