Retired Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas, the Sole Administrator for Rivers State, is currently meeting with the House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee, following multiple postponements.

This meeting marks the lawmakers’ decision to exercise their constitutional right to take over the functions of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

During the session, Ibas apologized for his absence at the previous meeting and requested additional time to prepare for the briefing.

He explained that he was still settling into his new role and asked for the committee’s understanding. Following his request, journalists were excused, and the meeting proceeded behind closed doors.

Ibas’ appointment came after President Bola Tinubu declared an emergency rule in Rivers State, leading to the suspension of Governor Sim Fubara.

The decision followed a prolonged political standoff between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, which ultimately resulted in the suspension of the governor, his deputy, and the state House of Assembly members.
