Israeli Airstrike Kills 26 in Gaza, Targets Police Station
An Israeli airstrike on Thursday targeted a police station in Jabalia, northern Gaza Strip, killing at least 10 people and injuring dozens more, according to medical sources. The strike, which occurred near a busy market, reportedly involved two missiles.
The Israeli military claimed responsibility, stating it targeted a command and control centre operated by Hamas and the Islamic Jihad groups, which it said were being used to coordinate attacks against Israeli forces.
The military further accused these groups of using civilian areas and infrastructure for militant purposes—an allegation that Hamas and affiliated factions have denied.
Local health authorities reported that at least 16 more people were killed in separate Israeli airstrikes across the territory on the same day, raising the total death toll in Gaza on Thursday to 26.
Since the collapse of the January ceasefire on March 18, over 1,900 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli operations, according to Gaza health officials, with widespread displacement occurring due to the creation of a buffer zone by Israeli forces.
Efforts at mediation by Qatar and Egypt, supported by the U.S., have not yet succeeded in brokering a new truce. The ongoing conflict was reignited after Hamas attacked Israel in October 2023, killing 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages.
Since then, more than 51,300 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, according to local health officials.
