Nigerian-Born US Citizen Indicted For $690K Wire Fraud, Identity Theft, And Lying To Obtain Citizenship
Oladapo Olakekan Fadugba, a Nigerian-born U.S. citizen, has been charged with wire fraud totaling $690,000, aggravated identity theft, and making false statements related to his naturalization. The charges were announced by U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe on April 23, 2025.
Fadugba allegedly transferred funds from the Department of Veterans Affairs to his personal bank accounts between October 2020 and July 2023, using fraudulent means, including another individual’s identity.
The U.S. government is seeking forfeiture of $400,000, representing the proceeds from the crime. If convicted, Fadugba faces up to 27 years in prison. He is also accused of lying during his naturalization process, claiming he had no prior criminal offenses.
The indictment against Oladapo Olakekan Fadugba is a formal charge, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The case was investigated by the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General, Homeland Security Investigations, the U.S. Treasury Office of Inspector General, and the U.S. Secret Service.
It will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Rachel Lasry.
