IPOB Says It Has Been Unfairly Blamed for Insecurity in Imo State

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has expressed frustration over being consistently blamed for the insecurity in Imo State, asserting that recent developments have vindicated its stance.

In a statement released by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, IPOB referenced a viral video featuring an individual identified as “Gentle Yahoo,” who reportedly confessed to participating in criminal activities in the state.

According to the statement, the individual also alleged that he was influenced by actors with personal or political interests.

IPOB emphasized that the video aligns with its longstanding claims of non-involvement in the region’s unrest, reinforcing its position that it is being wrongly accused.

“We, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, once again assert that we are not responsible for the insecurity, kidnappings, or other criminal activities in Imo State.

“The video circulating online, which features a man identifying himself as part of a group previously involved in such activities, suggests attempts were made to implicate IPOB, the Eastern Security Network, ESN, and our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” IPOB said.

The group emphasized that it has consistently maintained, through official statements and public broadcasts, that its mission is rooted in peaceful advocacy for self-determination.

It further appealed to both the public and the media to approach issues with caution and ensure proper investigation is conducted before assigning blame or drawing conclusions.

“We expect responsible media and public institutions to critically evaluate such claims and avoid hastily labeling IPOB or ESN in matters of regional insecurity,” the statement added.

IPOB urged for greater transparency and accountability in governance, encouraging residents of Imo State to actively seek clarity and justice regarding the persistent insecurity affecting their communities.
