Mohamed Salah has officially signed a new contract with Liverpool, putting an end to one of the club’s biggest contract sagas.

The Egyptian winger has agreed to a two-year deal worth £375,000 per week, making him one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League.

This deal is a notable exception to the club’s typical policy, as Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool’s owners, have been reluctant to offer new contracts to players over the age of 30.

‘Of course, I’m very excited. We have a great team now. Before also we had a great team. But I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football,’ he told the club website.

‘It’s great, I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10. Enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I had the best years in my career.

‘I would like to say to [the fans], I am very, very happy to be here. I signed here because I believe we can win a lot of big trophies together. Keep supporting us and we’ll give it our best, and hopefully in the future we’re going to win more trophies.’

Mohamed Salah is now Liverpool’s third all-time top scorer with 243 goals in 394 appearances. This milestone was achieved during the current campaign, where he surpassed legends Billy Liddell and Gordon Hodgson.

To surpass Ian Rush as Liverpool’s all-time top scorer, Mohamed Salah needs 103 more goals.

This season, Salah also set a club record with 17 Premier League assists in a single campaign. Throughout his time at Anfield, he has won numerous trophies, including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup (twice), UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and Community Shield.
